For Parents & Educators

The science and heart behind AAL — and how to use it in your home or classroom.

Why AAL Universe?

We know you have a lot of choices when it comes to educational content. Here’s what makes AAL different: every resource is created by someone who deeply understands both animal behavior science and how children learn. Our founder is a former dietitian with a background in health science, holistic wellness, and years of hands-on experience with reactive and fearful rescue dogs.

This isn’t just cute animal content. AAL Universe is built on real principles:

Scaffolded Learning

Content is layered by complexity so young people can grow at their own pace. We meet them in their zone of proximal development.

Dual Coding Theory

Visual + verbal learning combined. Our illustrations and stories work together to help concepts stick.

Trauma-Informed Design

Nervous-system aware content. No shame, no fear tactics. We build safety and trust first.

Cross-Curricular

Science, language arts, life skills, emotional health, and nature — all connected through the lens of animal allies.

Designed for Every Kind of Learner

All AAL materials are built with diverse learners in mind. We don’t create separate “accommodated” versions — instead, inclusive design is woven into everything from the start. Because what works for neurodivergent learners works better for everyone.

Choose Your Path

Every activity offers multiple ways in — draw it, write it, act it out, or talk about it. No single “right way” to engage. Learners pick the approach that fits their brain and energy that day.

Sensory-Friendly

Clean layouts, calm color palettes, and built-in movement breaks. Our materials are designed to be accessible without being overwhelming — visually, emotionally, and cognitively.

Flexible Pacing

No timers, no pressure. Activities are designed for short bursts or longer deep-dives. Pause, come back, do half — it all counts. Learning happens on the learner’s schedule.

AAL content is shaped by real experience with neurodivergent learners and a deep respect for how different brains process the world. No labels required — just good design that meets every learner where they are.

How to Use AAL in Your Homeschool
